PREPARING FOR MORE

Updated: Nov 16, 2019

In preparing to receive from our Father, it’s vital that we realize why He wants to bless us. Many people want to be blessed to show they are something or someone of importance. As if the material things they’ve received or titles or positions make them. They no longer stand in the identity that we have in Christ as kings and priests unto God, nor the fact that we are sons and daughters of God! Now, before I go on, let me say, there is nothing wrong with having things. It’s when things have you, that’s the problem.

JAMES 4:2-3

You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

These scriptures point to a heart problem. A problem in the very core of our being. Should we be blessed? Yes. But let’s look at the word pleasure: it comes from word (hādonā) which means- to please, lusts, pleasure, sensual desires. In other words, it’s all for me! Folks, Jesus came to give us life, life that changes, transforms, makes things not about us, but about others! You see, while we are kings and priests unto God, while we are sons and daughters of God, He has called us to be like Jesus and be servants to mankind.

MATTHEW 20:28

just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,

and to give His life a ransom for many." We’re to follow in the steps of Jesus.

So what does this have to do with receiving? Everything! Does God want your bills paid? Yes! Does God care if you live in a nice house or drive a nice car? No, He’s perfectly fine with that! It’s when we make it all about us and lose sight of the real reason we’re here. We’re here to be God’s hands and feet, to be His ambassadors. To show the world that Jesus Christ is moving in His body and declaring to the world, He’s alive! He loves His creation!! He wants them to be a part of His salvation plan! He wants them to be His sons and daughters!!

So how do we prepare to receive? We realize, we’re not looking for hand outs, we’re not afraid of work. We posture ourselves as a people who are grateful for the very fact of our adoption and ready to receive that we might serve the needs of others. In doing so, we will be so blessed we will not be able to contain it! All to the glory of God!!
